Big fire in town last night

This was a duplex. 10 people are now without a home, they all got out safe because the smoke detectors went off but I heard that a cat and dog didn't make it. They were all standing outside this morning when I drove past so I turned around and gave them the last 5 packs of hand warmers I had in the truck.

That's terrible. Happens a lot this time of year as well. I always do my routine check/battery change in my alarms whenever we set the clocks forward or backwards. Will be looking into upgrading our smoke/carbon monoxide detectors this spring just as precaution.

It happened in our small town too on Feb 19th. One of my fellow basketball coaches lost his home in a fire. Lost his dog too but everyone made it out safely.

Now the town is holding some fundraisers/clothes drive to help the family as they lost everything.

That building was a bar at one time, I think that was about 50 years ago. Really is sad. When I stopped to give one of the women who lives in the duplex the hand warmers her and another guy said thank you right away. The only thing I could muster up was that its cold out here, I didn't know what else to say. Got kinda choked up.

I'm sure your actions were stronger than any words…good on ya man. It's times like this that the community you live in really shines or fails.
