Ok a buddy owns this old trap so going to see if any of you can figure out what it was used for.
We will let it run for a few days and see if anyone gets it right.
A couple of ya already know so hold off for awhile before giving out any hints.
In the pic it is sitting on a big coffee table so it's not small.

I've done some more thinking. A bear would just pull its leg out of that trap with the smooth edges. I'd guess it's more of a training trap.

Looking at the size difference of the springs, and the jaws not meeting up as they should. I wonder if this trap was reassembled at one point. The frame of the trap tells me it wasn't made to hold anything of real size.

J, the jaw spread might be big, but the basic frame of the trap isn't made for something with a set of balls. Also there's a remote trying to sneak into the picture that makes me think the jaw spread might be in 5-6" area. That's plenty big enough for our canines but I could see a yote destroying this trap.

Dale, when I saw the remote vs the chain size and the lack of teeth on the jaws I figured whatever it was for they didn't want it tore up too bad.... Jaws looked bigger too me, at first lol.....

They looked bigger to me too, until I seen the remote. The chain size, I'm not sure about, but I'd like to see a closeup of the swivel. What I can see, and I do have bad eyes, it looks kind of modern.
