I LOVE Old Crow Medicine Show. Not the Hootie and the Blowfish rendition of Wagon Wheel. Anything else of theirs I will wear out the CD. I have been looking for something new. Similar sound is what I am looking for. Thought you guys might have some suggestions.
So far I have tried out CD's of: The Hackensaw Boys (two huge thumbs up), The Devil Makes Three (not bad), Punch Brothers (eh, ok), Avett Bros (bit too slow and not as blue grassy to me).
Been hitting iHeart radio on the internet to find similar. Not a lot out there. Hank III has some rock/bluegrass sounding stuff. Sounds like his grandpa with a lot of drugs added and a Black Flag punk sound to it. Trampled by Turtles has my interest but I want to hear some more before I buy a CD. Most of their band has more of a rock/heavy metal background. Only been playing bluegrass the last 10yrs or so. The Carolina Chocolate Drops is one group I want to hear more of before I make a decision. Not prejudice, just a little weird seeing a black group play bluegrass. Good sound so far from what I hear. The Steel Drivers are another one I need to hear more of before I spend money on their CD. My wife likes Mumford and Son. I don't care for them as much. Avett Bros have a similar sound. Nice soothing music. A bit slow. Not as twangy. Almost more of an Irish folk sound to them in my opinion.
Any other suggestions for a faster sounding bluegrass group? Surely some of you guys have similar tastes?
