I bought a new toy today. A Rock Island Armory -RIA- in 22TCM. The 22 TCM is a cut down Rem 223 case and loaded round about the same length as a 45ACP. Shoots a 40 gr. 22 caliber bullet at 2000 FPS which about 600 FPS faster than a 22 mag. with better terminal bullet designs.
It has a double stack magazine holding 17 and one in the chamber for a total of 18.
I'll make my own cases out of Rem 223 and reload my own ammo. Plus I have couple good cast bullet molds I can use for really cheap plinking ammo.
Gonna be a real fun piece.

After playing 3 weeks of phone tag with my FFL Dealer friend I finally picked up my 22 TCM RIA pistol last night. I bought 100 rounds of factory 40 gr. rounds to get started. Plus I got 250 once fired brass off Gunbroker and the Company I do work for got 50 rounds once fired brass in so I have 400 pieced of brass to reload. Ordering reloading dies and 40 & 35 gr. Hornady bullets. The 40 grain are 22 Hornet light weight jacket and the 35 gr. are plastic tip Vmax. Both designs will be a deadly round.
It has a nice factory trigger let off and will do a light trigger job. Going off to shoot it now. It should be a blast.

My grandson was helping me today work on my electric project for my man cave. When we finished I left him shoot the RIA 22 TCM pistol. It shot great and put the empty cases in a 5 ft. circle about 10 ft. away. He shot 5 and I shot 5 with no failures. No recoil with that little 40 gr. bullet but it's loud as hell. You surely want to have good ear muffs on. But I don't shot anything without muffs so no problem.
I may even consider it for a CCW pistol as with that 40 gr. hollowpont bullet at 2000 FPS will surely make deadly round. The 17 round mag gives me a comfort level.

I do wish it was built on the double action frame. But this is going to be a fun gun. Just need to find time to reload for it. I guess it'll have to wait until after deer season and by that time I should have my reloading equipment relocated and setup. Fun times ahead.

How close in size to a .221 Fireball is that new round?

The 221 Fireball case is 1.400 and the 22 TCM case is 1.030. With a difference of about .360. Just about 3/8".
The 22 TCM loaded round is the same OAL as a 45ACP loaded round.

With all of the thicknesses of the .223 case, would it be easier to case form the .221 cases with out reaming or the such?

I do make my 221 Fireball cases out of 223 brass. I have to turn the 221 case necks because the brass is too thick.
I found 400 once fired 22TCM brass on Gunbroker for 17 cents each so I went that way for extra brass.

So expect 22TCM made from 223 brass may have to have the necks turned down in size. Unless when the case was designed that was taken into the design.

Looked at one of these at Woodbury's the other day. Very impressive, nice trigger. Not on my top ten list to run out and buy one though. Got too many others.

Finally today after a 6 month wait I bought a companion RIA rifle in 22 TCM to go with my 22 TCM pistol. The rifle shoots the same pistol 40 gr. ammo at 2800 FPS out of a 22.75" barrel. Plus the rifle uses the same 17 round pistol magazine. The rifle is shipped with a 5 round magazine.
This will be my new varmint rifle and will replace my 22 mag. rifle and probably retire my 22 Fireball Ruger #3 custom rifle I had built up 20 yrs. ago.
Going to be a fun year. Hell every year is a fun year when your still alive.

That's a cool set-up. Its great that you have both guns and that the mag will work in both!
When you find time, post em both up in the Gun Porn thread!

Looks like you are going to have a great varmint season!
