A Deal or a Dud ?

I was looking at a friends boat this morning
He bought a new bass boat

But what got me looking was a still in the box generator
A Champion 3500 Watt Generator , not a top name but sold by Cabales

I remember him buying it 3-4 years back
But it has sat in the box , stuck in the corner of a shed

For grins I looked at it , as I was thinking of getting a extra generator
Mine is old , but so far still working

As shipped , there is no oil in it
And when I tryed pulling on the pull start
It wouldn't turn over

He told me , he had no use for it
Give him $40 and it's mine

I was wondering if you thought messing with ?
I guess I would have to break down the motor some to free things up
But Rust ???? inside it

This is a basic unit , pull start and Max 4000 watts , normaly 3500 watts
But it would be enough for my needs

Deal! Champion customer service is top notch I hear and replacement parts are readily available.

I own the same model for our home back up and camper needs.

Champion customer service is really good. I have a small one (1250 watts I think) and after a couple months the spring inside the pull start assembly broke. I called thinking I could buy the spring off of them but they sent me the entire assembly free and it was at my house in like 2 days.

Don't force the rope. It may be a good idea to pull the spark plug and spray some WD40 in the hole. Let it sit for awhile and then gently pull on the rope- that will usually free it up. Then you can fill it up with gas and try to start it.

OK
I took a quick look last night and saw it was a buy

So a hour or so back
I drove over to his house and waved a $20 bill under his nose and he said %@^_^%$#%^& take the darn thing and laughted

So it is now in my basement
I think I will start with pulling the spark plug or plugs and putting in some Kroil
Maybe that will loosen things up
If not , I guess I will start taking it apart
