I should have started this some time ago..... I have almost zero photos from this year so far. My camera on my phone took a shit..... junk droid....

Either way I have around 30 rats,1 mink, 13 coon and 2 yotes so far.

Oh and honorable mentions include.....4 opossums.... and 3 house cats. Haha

Here are the yotes. Sorry they are not from the field....

What is your gameplan for winterizing this year.

I'm using 50/50 dirt and peat.

I dig my bed. Spread the 50/50 mix in bottom. Sprinkle flake antifreeze on bottom. Bed my trap then. After that I soft 50/50 over trap and then spray outline of trap with propylene glycol. I then sift more 50/50 over trap and leave my trap pan cap over pan and pack the peat and dirt on trap to make it so it isn't springy and spongy. I take my pan cap off and soft more 50/50 over the trap...I level it out and make my pan the lowest point .....

I just posted a similar question in your thread.

I'm using dirt holes and flat sets.

Rt now I'm baiting with muskrat with a tuft of duck skin/feathers on top

Hey Zach. You using dog proofs to catch your coon? If so what ya been using for bait in them? If ya do t mind sharing. ;)

Not him
But I am running 20 Dog Proof traps right now

Baits I use
Marshmellos
Canned fish cat food , CHEAP Big Lotts or Dollar store stuff
A cotton ball soaked in the oil from Tuna fish cans
A chunk of Banna , needs to be replaced every 4 or 5 days

I mix it up
As I find the coon can be pickey sometimes

What are ya having the best luck with? I was using marshmallows with molasses and went cold with that so I switched to dog good with fish oil and clam juice. Caught my first one with that concoction last night. Thanks for sharing TOO John. People aren't always willing to share their trapping secrets.

Out in the woods or along the creeks
Probely the cheap cat food or the cotton ball with Tuna oil ( toss up )

But in the barns
Marshmellos , hands down

But the location of the trap is the big thing
I have a shallow creek , formed to drain 5 or 6 feild tiles

One spot on a bend , 1 Dog Proof trap set there
Will out catch 10 other sets along the ditch combined

How I found that spot ....I took my time and watched where there were coon tracks
Then put the info in my log book

Same as a freinds great Yote snare location
He found a trail the Yotes use
Day after day

No bait , just a nice pinch point on the trail and 2 snares

OH another thing
Trapping maybe done in the fall - winter
But great info as to where the coon , rats , fox , mink and Yotes live and travel paths
Can be easly seen in the spring and summer

After turkey season
I take walks through the areas I trap
Taking notes

Early this fall , while deer scouting
I saw a tree had fallen over the creek
Not 200 yds from the land owners house

That fallen tree is now a coon super highway to cross the creek
I placed a home made boxtrap in the tree root ball , baited with a chunk of Shad
The land owners kid checks that trap 2 times a day for me
More than a few doubles in the same day

I'm using some DPs....I have caught some in coyote/fox sets too. I have snared a few... not a big snare fan though....

In my DPs
I use marshmallows with blackies lure..... n fish oil...

Or I take hot dogs n cut them in about one inch pieces n soak them in fish oil....they impale nicely on the trigger.... I've found that when the DP is placed so they run into the trap on their travels it doesn't matter what's in it....as long as it has a decent smell and has food in it....

I dont like any kind of paste....as it can gum up the trigger
