How do I not let it spoil the day?

In a few weeks I'll be attending my son's graduation. He's get his Masters in Electrical Engineering from Stanford, a big accomplishment for an Ohio farmboy. So here is the problem, the Commencement speaker is Michael Bloomberg. How do I sit there and let this asshole trash what I believe in and not let it ruin a really big day for my family? I'm thinking head phones and loud music is the only way to get through it. Any advise?

BTW here is a report on his talk at Kenyon.

by Alicia Powe

America's most dangerous Mayor used his commencement address at Kenyon College in Ohio as a political opportunity to slam members of Congress for failing to pass background check legislation.

"Have courage to act on your hopes, don't be paralyzed by your fears," Mayor Bloomberg told the graduating class. "Have the courage to think for yourself and to believe in your ideas. That kind of idea lies in the heart of human invention and progress. And a lot of it lies in the heart of our political problems today."

The mayor then spent the better part of his 15 minute address on gun control, celebrating the occasion by attacking the NRA and highlighting recent gun violence.

"Too many members of Congress did not have the courage to stand up for the increasingly extremist views of the NRA's Washington lobbyist," he said. "Many of them feel that voting for common sense policy would lead to someone challenging them in a primary or hurt their chances to win their party’s nomination to higher office."

Bloomberg told the graduates that since they were freshmen four years ago, more than 40,000 American people have been murdered with guns. He referenced a shooting last year by a 17-year-old who opened fire at an Ohio high school, killing three and injuring others.

"It was national news — for a day or two. Then came mass shootings in Pittsburgh, Miami, Oakland, Tulsa, Seattle, Wilmington, Aurora, Milwaukee, Texas A&M, Minneapolis, Brookfield, Portland, and after each one, those in Washington just shrugged," he said.

I moved to NY 25 years ago to start a new trade, raise a family and eventually start a business there. After 25 years I couldn't take it anymore. Closed up the shop and got out right as the financial collapse started. I wouldn't go back there for nothing. I wont give one more dime to a socialist state that has gone off the deep end.

I suggest the headphones and bringing as much as you need with you. Don't give those scumbags anymore wealth to perpetuate their agenda.

On a lighter note... Congratulations to your son. :)

Ear plugs or noise canceling headsets should be the ticket or just earplugs and ear muffs... And I'd sit close enough so he could see you sitting with hem on....

Sam, you and Monica have done an outstanding job raising your kids.... I'm very proud too call you friend....

congrats to your son!

A commencement seems like a very inappropriate occasion for comments like those. maybe a letter to the university asking them to have the doucher speak about more positive things.

not sure, but isn't kenyon college a liberal arts school?

Head phones and a little Vodka and V8 or OJ
Not enough to get drunk but enough to take the edge off

That way you will be more mello and by the time you go out to eat
You will be back to your normal .....Or as close to our normal as posible LOL

Congrats to your son, that's no small deal.

As for Bloomburg, hey - not everyone can have Walter Williams. Boring as heck, but at least his policies are sound.

You probably know Stanford is home of the Hoover Institution, a collection of who's who of conservative intellectuals. They could have picked members like Condi Rice, Thomas sowell, or Victor Davis Hanson but nooooo...

Sometimes you just have to sit there and let people show how ignorant they really are. The right person in the crowd and you may not have to do anything Sam......Except watch. Good Luck with it Buddy!

Congrats on your son's accomplishment. You'll be proud of that for the rest of your life. On another note, a few firecrackers would spice up the speech. Then again, it'll only cause pandemonium in which you'll get trampled upon & somehow the blame will work its way back to me, so never mind.

Loved the lazer pointer idea.

Cannot agree more with the others: Huge congrats to your son!

Suggestions: I don't know. Maybe a sign to hold up? Picture of the middle finger on it? Whenever he gets stupid in his speech you can hold it up?

I love the ear muff suggestion :) Really big fluffy ones and then you can stand & turn your back to the podium while he is making his pitch :D
He would have to see you that way and so would everyone else. I like it :)
