Does anybody own one and do they work as well as the reviews say? Will it kill every flying creature?

Hebbardsville..
I know a guy who knows a guy that has one. He brought it out to our camp one night. And after he smoked the critters, they were gone! It worked like a charm for us. Just walk the perimeter and smoke all the trees, underbrush, everything. It makes the night a little better when you don't have smack your legs every 10 seconds trying to kill the skeeters.

I have one for out to the marsh
Only problem I found
It only works for a while
I found the next day the darn skeeters are back

So I kill another bunch
Also
If it is windy
The down wind skeeters are not dead and come to say hello

Foggers are only a temporary fix, seeing as though they only kill the adults and only kill the ones that are contacted. If you're looking for a short-term solution, a fogger would probably work well. For a long-term solution, you're going to have to eliminate the egg sites... basically anything holding even the slightest amount of stagnant water. Larvicides work well for stagnant ponds and swamps. However knot-holes in trees are virtually impossible to treat, and are the most preferred egg sites for Aedes sp. mosquitoes... which are the worst biters, IMO. In short, buy a fogger if you just want to treat prior to having a party or something. Other than that, I'd say stock up on Deet and plenty of Thermacell cartridges.

How about biological solutions? That little swamp will have water in it up until the fall. With the life cycle of a male at around five days and a female almost a month, this may be a decent solution. I have NEVER in my life been attacked by so many swarms. I thought I was in the Amazon.

Never heard of that stuff before, Mike. I have no idea. I browsed their website for just a couple minutes but I couldn't find the list of ingredients for that product.

We have a fogger we bought years ago for our wedding reception we had in our back yard. Normally the skeeters would like to carry you away but after hitting every bush, tree and tall grass nearby we enjoyed a long evening without many. Use it now and then when we have something going on. Pretty much a one day thing though as others have said.

I've really never had much of a problem with the little bastards. I've always claimed I don't have any evil in me but the family thinks not.
It might be that because of my MS I don't sweat very much.

Anyone still using this or the propane traps? Thermalcells won't light this year, they're both about 15-16 years old. And I'd like to cover a little more area than they do around the camper. I'm also guessing I'll need to do a little more control around the house now that the pond is in. It would be nice to get ahead of the curve before the summer event.

For around the house get you a stihl mist blower. Like a SR 200 or SR 450. Mix suspend polyzone in the tank and an Insect Growth Regulator (IGR) like Tekko. Spray the bushes and vegetation around the house and pond especially the underside of the leaves. The pesticide is time released so it'll last for 60-90 days. Mosquitos rest on the underside of vegitation in shady spots. The IGR stops their development cycle. Even for adults, it gets on them and contaminates the eggs when they're laid.

The best thing you can do for the pond is to put some fish in it. Even if they're goldfish that your desired fish will eat later.

Definitely get the SR450 if you’re shopping for one. It’ll allow you the flexibility of dispersing either liquid OR granular products. Anything from herbicide to pesticide to seed to fertilizer to salt.

Now that reminds me. I had this debate with myself before buying and ended up going with the 430 for two reasons. The 430 has an engine driven centrifugal pump for liquids but the 450 is gravity fed. The pump is critical for vertical spray height when pointing the nozzle up to reach up in the trees or eaves and soffits. With the gravity fed 450 the spray will stop if the nozzle end is elevated above tank height. I also read that a bunch of people were having problems with the tank leaking because it has to be removed and turned around for granules and then back for liquids. Eventually the tank-to-body seal leaks. I went ahead and decided that any herbicide or fert I may want to use is usually also sold in liquid concentrate form. For anything else like a seed or time-released weed and feed I bought a good drop spreader.
